An amazingly beautiful cultural marriage - two iconic ensembles that each blossomed during the same historical period, one in the opulent courts of the Esterházys and the other in the Imperial palaces of Edo Japan.

This concert is the first performance of KSA’s 10th Anniversary Project, launching a new decade of music blending Japanese and Western traditions. The project is a two-season commissioning initiative of four septets for sankyoku trio (shakuhachi, koto, and shamisen with voice) and string quartet. The four composers are Daron Hagen and James Nyoraku Schlefer on the upcoming concert, and commissions to James Matheson and Yoko Sato premiering on March 29, 2020!!
